Target; 2006

Target; 2006 is a Windows-based remake of Target; Renegade, the acclaimed 1986 Spectrum beat-’em-up by Imagine. Continuing the storyline from time-travelling adventure Renegade 3, this game sees the timeline warped - Mr Big has returned tougher than ever, and this time is ready for you. This action-packed beat-’em-up allows up to six players to take on the criminal underworld. Fight your way across the city using fists, feet and anything handy that’s lying around. Take on vicious biker gangs, mobs of punks and shifty-looking guys in baseball caps.
Punch women in the face!

    1. hi, my name is miguelo. i want to say that…:

      guys you are great!!!

i have 31 years old and i dont have the zx spectrum, i have commodore 64 but when i only are one child i play this really cool game in the house of one of my friend, with also another really cool games like gauntlet, or mad mix (a curious pacman clone with new things)and other cool games.

so, I REALLY LOVE play your remake after all these years passed :) 20 years ago?… oh my good, how the time runs… :)

      one little fail:
      —————-

the only fail i see, is that in version 1.3 the game crashes ALWAYS when you finish the whole game. is during the staff with the enemys dead, in the 4 or 5 screen the games crashes and go out, so i never can save my high score or see the ending complete .
(the only form for see the full ending is play the old 1.1 or 1.2 versions).

so please, if you can fix that little & ugly fail ;).

apart i know that actually you have involved in create a new version (target 2008)so… go for it!, i love that screenshot with the player in a motorbike, (like the renegade 1 sega master system cool version) great idea!

so well thats all, congratulations for the remake, i follow your future work, and many thanks for take back my memorys… ;)

pd: sorry my english im spanish.

    2. hi, im miguelo again. i forget say one important thing about the game fail, that my pc is a pentium 4 1700 ghz, with 1gb memory and a good graphics 3d card, in windows xp home version. i hope this help you.

pd: i not try the game in windows 98 (i have one partition in my pc with win98 & winxp)) for see if the fail happens again there

bye. and thanks again for make that cool remake ;)

    3. Your English is a lot better than my Spanish, don’t worry about it!

Glad you enjoyed the game, and I’m sorry about that end-of-game bug, it’s such a pain. It cropped up now and then throughout development, but I thought I’d fixed it completely in the last release. Not enough testing, I guess, but Target; 2008 will have that problem fixed, however much my testers cry that they don’t want to play any more…

    4. hi!, yesterday i play again the game and… what is this!!?. i see that funny “target RELOADED” mode at “matrix style”. but i really dont know how exactly i make that cheat…

i think is by select the game “.exe” file, but not make double click in the mouse for load the game, just push and keep ENTER KEY for load… then the “target RELOADED” load screen appears with the player in neo black clothes… (people, do it is funny!)
but i only can do it after almost 4 loads and exits the game everytime i want to make appear that secret mode.

please, can you tell me how exactly the cheat must be maked? and by the way, there exist another cheats in the game?

other thing, i download one openbor target renegade game unfinished, with a really big jump for all the players and some cool music remakes inside. i dont have idea of programming, but i know how unzip the bor.pak file with the bor game with “paxplorer” program if you want, by example, add more continues to one hard bor game that needs it.

and also in “lavalit” bor site i download one tool. is a pluggin of winamp for can hear these bor music files.

well i upload these bor music files and the pluggin if you dont know that unfinished bor game and wants to hear that target renegade music remixes i say…

      http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I3GKUJQT

i really love hear the original spectrum game music, but i see you put new music in the videos, so if you plan add new music for the new levels or something, maybe this can be usefull for you… (if you dont already know it)

the level 2 music is a really cool remake!, hear it. unfortunate i dont have idea of how convert music.bor files to normal mp3 files… sorry.
and is a pity because i want use some of these cool music remixes in your game like you explain in the readme file. but is really impossible for me :(.

      bye. ;)

    5. another curious thing:

i have some skills with the pro action replay search engine ;), i say this because i have one cheat in mame renegade 1 that makes the player changes their sprites to the ones of EVERY enemy in the game. i discover this by lucky in one cheats search for infinite lives:

      :renegade:00000100:0307:00000017:FFFFFFFF:p1 & p2 select player

:renegade:60000018:00000000:00000000:00000000:note select player:change the number of data and you can play as one enemy or one boss of the game! but the attacks are the same of the player… only change the body/costume.useless, but fun to see.

some enemys dont have sprites for certain moves (jump attack), so the game use player sprites for that…

change “renegade” to “kuniokun” and “kuniokub” for use that cheat in the other 2 japanese versions of the game.
just copy the 6 lines of cheats at the bottom of the cheat.dat mame file. but remenber! use one old mame32, because the new mame use a diferent system cheat and dont works.

dont forget that at the end of the code must be one “square sign” for close the cheat code (see another code inside cheat.dat) and just copy it at the end of these renegade cheats for works.

i hope this can help you if you want use the big woman boss sprites or the sprites of another renegade enemy in target 2008…

      bye. ;)

    6. The music you uploaded is most of the remade music that’s out there; I’ve actually been using the same title music!

As for ripping sprites from the arcade; I’ve only been through the game by way of Youtube, but I don’t think much of it would fit the Spectrum style of the rest of the game. I have found that the NES version of Renegade has some usable graphics though - I’ve ripped the road in the bike chase from there for a start.

And when it comes to Target Reloaded - I have no idea what you’re talking about. ;)
